Findon Cricket Club Win Best Girls’ Section at the 2009 Chance to Shine Awards
After a couple of seasons of hard work building a girls’ section at the club, Findon Cricket Club have won the “best girls’ section” at the recent Chance to Shine awards.
This is the first year of the Chance to Shine awards and for Findon to win this award is a great achievement.
Findon Cricket Club have been a part of the Sussex Cricket Board’s Girls’ Chance to shine project over the last two years, with coaches going into the local schools to deliver Chance to Shine coaching to set up the link between the schools and the club.
Sussex Women & Girls’ Community Coach, Charlotte Burton said, “Findon have worked incredibly hard to build on their girls’ section at the club. They started with around 4 girls’ at the club, but with the help of the Chance to Shine project they now have around 20 , which has been built up over the past two years. The club still look to increase the number of girls’ playing cricket and this will continue to be done through the Chance to shine project in 2010.”
Charlotte added, “The girls’ Chance to shine project in Sussex has been extremely successful with a number of clubs like Findon seeing a growth in girls’ playing cricket through the project.”
