Gatting smashes 75 from 35 as Nomads thrash Horsham
Sussex Premier League Round Up
Preston Nomads continue to lead the Sussex Premier League after they polished off Horsham in double quick time on Saturday. Of the chasing pack there were also wins for East Grinstead, Eastbourne and Cuckfield while the game at Haywards Heath saw the home side and Three Bridges locked in a tight finish that produced a draw.
Horsham were sent tumbling to 86 all out as Nick Hobbs grabbed 5 for 23 and Carl Simon took 3 for 34. Joe Gatting then cracked 75 not out from 35 balls to take his side to 88 without loss from only 49 balls.
Cuckfield chased down impressively a total a total of 248 for 9 set by Brighton and Hove. Of that Guy Williamson hit 64, Tim Jarvis 42 and Curtis Ford 33 not out. Williamson and Ford added 98 for the ninth wicket! For Cuckfield, Ben Collins took 3 for 43 and Dan Bowman 3 for 28. Bowman then shared a century stand with fellow 19 year-old Matt Boote to set their team off to a flying start. Boote hit 86 and Bowman 56 while Jason Oates waded in with 47 as the home side won with 12 overs to spare at 252 for 5. There were two wickets each for Matt Wood and Patrick Spencer.
At Eastbourne the home side declared at 241 for 6 against lowly Lewes Priory. Of that Mark Tomsett made 50, Ben Brown 47 and Tom Smith 45. Leg spinner Simon Birch took 3 for 51. Lewes were then dismissed for 169 despite 50 from Tom Sharp. Tom Smith Grabbed 6 for 51 and Ollie Rayner took 3 for 63.
East Grinstead enjoyed a comfortable five wicket win at Hastings after bowling out the home side for 197. In that score Toby Finzell made 32, with Pepla Sandri and Jason Finch making 33 each. For the visitors Aussie Cullen Bailey took 4 for 67. Skipper Alex Edwards then hit 74, Tim Wilson made 41 not out and Will Adkin 41 not out to take their side to victory at 201 for 5 in 42.1 overs.
At Haywards Heath visiting Three Bridges were led to 230 for 9 declared by their skipper Mark Newell who made 68 and Danny Alderman added 48. The home side finished 10 short of victory at 221 for 9, Charlie Dowdall hit 56, Tom Dowdall 42 and Steve Kingcome 43. Alderman took 4 for 48 and Jigga Parekh 4 for 82.
