Pepler Sandri impresses on debut
Pepler Sandri took three Australian wickets on his Sussex debut and declared: “It just felt great to be playing again.”
The start of Sandri’s county career has been dogged by injuries but he removed Phillip Hughes, Simon Katich and Marcus North in front of nearly 7,000 fans on the first day of the tour match at Hove.
Australia recovered to post 349-7 but it was an unforgettable day for Sandri, 26, who studied law for four years before concentrating on cricket in South Africa. Sussex signed him on a one-year contract in March.
He said: “I only knew I was playing yesterday. It was probably between me and another spinner and I’m glad I got this opportunity.
“I’ve had some injuries but came through a fitness test on Sunday okay and my rhythm was good.”
