Sarah Taylor becomes youngest female to pass 1,000 ODI runs
England Women take on India at Hove on Tuesday 9 September
England and Sussex’s wicketkeeper/batter, Sarah Taylor became the youngest female cricketer ever to pass 1,000 one-day international runs as she struck a sweet 75 to see England to victory over India at Taunton on September 1, 2008.
The nineteen year old, who attended Brighton College, needed just 16 runs to pass the milestone as she went into the NatWest Women’s one-day international at The Home of Women’s Cricket on Monday. She finished unbeaten on 75 as England took a 2-0 lead in the NatWest Women’s Series over India.
She said: “I didn’t realise the importance of this milestone until I had achieved it. I’m really happy that I’ve passed 1,000 one-day international runs already in my cricketing career.
“Credit must go to the England set-up which has enabled me to achieve this at such a young age. I have had fantastic coaches and backroom staff who have supported me throughout my career so far and I am grateful to them for all they have done.
“I’ll continue to play cricket in the same vein as we approach the ICC Women’s World Cup in Australia in March and the ICC World Twenty20 in England in June next year. But more pressingly we’ll look to take another series win over India to put us in a commanding position going into the two global competitions.”
England Women will take on India at The County Ground, Hove tomorrow (September 9) in the final clash of the five-match NatWest Women’s Series. The match will be played under lights and is due to start at 2.30pm.
Entrance at Hove will be £5 per person and it promises to be an exciting encounter.
