Seconds post big score on day one at Rose Bowl
Sussex 401 for 7 declared
Sussex Second XI started their Championship match against Hampshire yesterday excellently well as they won the toss and posted 401 for 7 declared.
Carl Hopkinson scored the bulk of the runs with a brilliant 132 and was ably supported by Ben Brown, who made 57. The pair put on 181 for the fourth wicket, having joined each other at the crease with the score on 29 for 3.
Ollie Rayner and Matthew Machan helped boost the score with a sixth wicket partnership of 110. Rayner scored 70 and Machan made 58 as Sussex declared and gave the opposition 12 overs to bat before close.
However, the rain set in and there was no possibility of bowling any of the overs at Hampshire. Sussex will return tomorrow to the Rose Bowl and will be looking to take early wickets to build on a very successful day one.
