Sharks target home advantage in quarter-final

Coach Mark Robinson today urged Sussex to finish their Twenty20 Cup campaign with a fifth successive win to give them a quarter-final at fortress Hove.

The Sharks, who have lost just one limited overs game at home this season, cemented top spot in the south division after beating Surrey Brown Caps by six wickets last night and victory over Middlesex at Lord’s should be enough to earn them home advantage in the knockout stages.

He said: “Other teams have games in hand this week but we’d be disappointed if we hadn’t done enough to get through to the quarter-finals.

“But we want to win at Lord’s because we want a home tie in the last eight.

“We’re a good team at Hove – we know our ground, our wicket and our facilities. Teams won’t fancy coming to us so it’s important to get the home tie.”

Sussex dismissed Surrey for 123 before reaching their target with six wickets and 19 balls to spare.

Robinson added: “I was really happy with our performance. We were liked caged lions when we went out and after Robin Martin-Jenkins got us a couple of wickets we piled in. Then batting-wise we were ruthless and calculated.”
