Sussex Girls Under 17s lose by 2 runs to Yorkshire
Like the Under 15 side, the under 17s have had a fantastic season and were unlucky not to win the final against Yorkshire to become County Champions.
Sussex won the toss elected to field first and the openers bowled tight lines but the Yorkshire openers dug deep and did not give their wicket away and built a strong opening partnership. Sussex continued to persist and the first wicket was taken in the 20 over with Lucy Uncles bowling Ammie simms for 24.
Yorkshire finished their innings on 168 for 5 with opening batsman, Charlotte Boulton scoring 54. Pick of the bowlers for Sussex were Lucy Uncles taking 1 for 27 and Izi Noakes, 1 for 26.
The Sussex opening partnership of Georgia Adams and Chiara Green started well making a partnership of 56 before Chiara was run out for 5. Georgia soon followed on 44.
Melissa Ferguson and Hannah Phelps batted together, rotating the strike and hitting regular boundaries and putting on a partnership of 79 before Melissa was out LBW on 36. Hannah then followed the next over after being caught behind on 33.
Once Hannah departed Yorkshire continued to bowl well and unfortunately no one else from Sussex made double figures and wickets tumbled very quickly.
It was an extremely tight match and came down to the last ball needed 3 runs, but the Yorkshire bowled stayed composed and bowled a good length ball and was only hit for 1, leading Yorkshire to victory by 2 runs.
Even though the under 17s have not won the County Championship they have played some fantastic cricket and all of the players should be proud of themselves for reaching the final and having one of their best seasons.
