Sussex Girls under 15’s & 17’s Reach Semi Final of County Championship
Both the under 15 and under 17 Sussex girls’ side have reached the semi final of the County Championship after winning their matches in the quarter final convincingly.
The Under 15’s reached the quarter final after being the best runner up in all the leagues and faced Oxford away on Tuesday. Sussex were put into bat and after losing 3 wickets for 10 runs, Chiara Green and Sophie Parnell looked to steady the ship and led Sussex to a total of 180 for 9, with Chiara scoring 72 and Sophie 49.
Sussex bowled well, keeping the ball in the right areas, causing problems for Oxford. They managed to bowl Oxford out for 75 off the 29th over. The pick of the bowlers were Georgia Aloof who took a hat-rick and finish with figures of 3 for 5 and Chiara Green 3 for 21.
The Under 15’s will now play their semi final match on Saturday 5th September away to Hampshire.
The Under 17’s reached the quarter final after winning the London and East League; they faced Wales at home on Monday. After winning the toss and sending Wales into bat, they started well until Izi Noakes took the first wicket. Wales batsman Lauren Parfitt came in and played a very good innings, but had to watch while other batsman got out around her. She did finish on 60 before she was bowled by Lucy Uncles and leading Wales to a total of 145. Lucy uncles was the pick of the bowler taking 4 for 25.
Sussex then went into bat and with a good start from openers Georgia Adams and Chiara Green and then Melissa Ferguson, Sussex were in sight of the total. Hannah Phelps then came in and played an excellent innings, hitting through the gaps, unfortunately Hannah was bowled on 48 after facing 73 balls. Lucy Uncles and Carla Rudd then led Sussex to victory, reaching the total in 34 overs.
The under 17’s will also play their semi final on Saturday 5th September away to Warwickshire.
