Sussex face uphill battle

Sussex are facing a second Championship defeat of the season after a poor batting display on the second day against Somerset at Hove.

The visitors are 222 ahead going into the third day with nine second-innings wickets in hand.

Replying to Somerset's 367, Sussex were bowled out for 197 with only Matt Prior (59) and Ed Joyce (45)offering much defiance.

Somerset's swing bowler Alfonso Thomas took five for 53 but too many Sussex batsmen got out to loose shots while Murray Goodwin's worrying lack of form continued with a third-ball duck.

Somerset skipper Justin Langer did not enforce the follow on despite a lead of 170 and they reached 52 for 1 from 20 overs at the close, although they did lose Marcus Trescothick who was caught off a leading edge in Luke Wright's new-ball spell.
