Sussex four hold all International and Domestic Women's Trophies
Sussex and the rest of the Country are celebrating after the England Women’s team won the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday
Three months ago the whole Country was celebrating the Success of the World Cup win by the England Women’s Team in Sydney. In Sussex we had even more to celebrate as we had four of our players in that World Cup winning side; Caroline Atkins, Holly Colvin, Laura Marsh and Sarah Taylor.
Today, again Sussex and the rest of the Country are celebrating after the England Women’s team won the Twenty20 World Cup on Sunday, making them double World Cup winners. All four Sussex players have again played an important part during the World Twenty20.
England beat New Zealand on Sunday at Lord’s in front of the biggest crowd Women’s cricket has seen. England won the toss and decided to field first, with Sussex spinner Laura Marsh opening the bowling. Laura took the first wicket after 5 balls with fellow Sussex player Sarah Taylor taking a stumping off Laura’s bowling and Laura finishing with figures of 1 for 16 off 4. Yorkshire and Brighton & Hove player, Katherine Brunt then bowled an outstanding spell, moving the ball in to the left handers and away to the right, finishing with figures of 3 for 6 off her 4 overs. Wickets kept falling and New Zealand were bowled out for 85 after some fantastic bowling and fielding from the England side, with Sarah Taylor taking 2 crucial catches behind.
Sussex player Sarah Taylor opened the batting with Charlotte Edwards and got off to a flyer, before Edwards was bowled. Sarah was joined by the other Taylor in the side, Claire, and both started to build a partnership until Sarah was caught behind for 23. But Claire Taylor, like Friday’s semi final led England to their second world cup victory in 3 months with 18 balls to spare.
England have now won every major international trophy, the 50 over World Cup, Twenty20 World Cup and the Ashes.
All four Sussex players also hold the County Championship trophy with Sussex and along with Holly, Laura and Sarah, Katherine Brunt who plays for Brighton & Hove also hold the National Premier league.
England look set to add another trophy in the next couple of weeks as they face Australia in five one day internationals and look to retain the Ashes.
