Sussex players star as England reach ICC Women’s World Cup Final

Four of the Sussex Women’s team have made a big impression on the ICC Women’s World Cup held in Australia and after England beat West Indies early this morning, they have confirmed their place in the final.

Sarah Taylor, Caroline Atkins, Holly Colvin and Laura Marsh have all put in outstanding performances throughout the group stages of the competition and there is still a clash against Australia to come, as well as the final.

Sarah Taylor (78) and Caroline Atkins (50) put on 134 for the first wicket against West Indies this morning, as England posted 236-8 in their 50 overs.

Laura Marsh, who took 3 for 17 today, is the leading wicket taker in the tournament, with 13 dismissals.

Holly Colvin, who has returned figures of 3 for 22 from 10 overs against India, and 1 for 8 from 10 overs against Pakistan, has also helped lead the way with the ball and is now ranked as the fourth best bowler in the world for ODI cricket.

England’s opponents for the final have not yet been decided, but it is likely to be the other tournament favourites – New Zealand. The final will take place on Saturday night at 2300 hours and will televised live on Sky Sports.

Holly Colvin said: “It’s amazing to be in a World Cup final – something that England Women have not achieved for 16 years. We’re in a great run of form and are unbeaten in the tournament. We’ll be looking to continue our success and bring home the trophy.

“It’s great that the Sussex contingent have played such a major role in the competition and this bodes well for the domestic season when we get back. Caroline (Atkins) and Sarah (Taylor) both put in hugely important performances today and it is great to see Laura (Marsh) adding to her tournament tally once again.
