Sussex show their worth by beating Surrey in convincing style
The Sharks win by 6 wickets
It was another great night for Sussex at Hove. However, a comfortable win started with floodlight problems, which interrupted the first over after Afzaal was dismissed caught Kirtley bowled Martin-Jenkins.
Play resumed and Surrey never truly got going. Wickets fell at regular intervals. First Newman was caught Hamilton-Brown from the bowling of Martin Jenkins. Soon followed the important wicket of Ramprakash after he smashed a difficult chance to Dwayne Smith off the bowling of Martin-Jenkins.
Mike Yardy carried on his good form in Twenty20 cricket as he dismissed both Spreigal and Walters and new Sussex star Piyush Chawla then came to the party taking two wickets in bowling Benning and Jordan.
James Kirtley and Hamilton-Brown finished the job and Surrey struggled to 123 all out.
The interval was almost as enthralling as the cricket. A mascot race of epic proportions took place and of course the mighty Sid the Shark won the day. Once again great entertainment for the nearly 6,000 strong crowd at Hove.
Sussex started brilliantly in their run chase putting on 72 for the first wicket with Luke Wright and Murray Goodwin cutting loose. Wright was the first to go and was stumped off the bowling of Afzaal.
Matt Prior was dubiously adjudged lbw to the bowling of Schofield for 11 before Dwayne Smith came to the wicket smashing a huge 6 in his 22 not out.
Murray Goodwin then fell, bowled by Walters for a valuable 38.
Hamilton-Brown smashed a boundary before holding out to Nel on the boundary off Afzaal, but Ed Joyce finished the job with Smith to send the Sharks to victory.
Bring on Australia!!
