Three Sussex players nominated for ICC Player of the Year

Sussex and England players, Holly Colvin, Laura Marsh and Sarah Taylor have been nominated by the ICC for the Women’s Player of the Year.

They have been nominated alongside England players, Charlotte Edwards and Claire Taylor.

Holly, Laura and Sarah all played major roles in England’s winning summer, helping win the World Cup, the T20 World Cup, The Ashes and a one day series win against Australia.

Holly Colvin is the youngest player to play for England after making her debut in 2005 at the age of 15. She has been a crucial spin bowler for England and this year she was named number one bowler in the World.

Laura Marsh made her debut for England in 2006 as a seam bowler, in 2007 she made the decision to become an off spin bowler and has not looked back ever since. In the 2009 World Cup, Laura was the leading wicket taker in the World cup taking 16 wickets, including 5/15.

Sarah Taylor is one of the best Wicket-Keeper/batsman in the World and in showed in this year’s World cup and one day series against Australia. Sarah made her debut in 2006 and is currently the second best batsman in the World behind fellow England player, Claire Taylor. To date she has played 49 ODI’s, scoring 1525 runs at an average of 39.10 and a strike rate of 78.97.

Haidee Tiffen, who was New Zealand captain in the World Cup played for Sussex in 2001 and 2002 has also be nominated, as is current captain Aimee Watkins who also played for Sussex in 2003 and helped lead Sussex to their first County Championship win.
