Tony Cottey signs with Sussex CCC

Cottey returns to Sussex

Sussex CCC is pleased to announce that Tony Cottey, the former Sussex cricketer, has been appointed as Business Relationship Manager and rejoins the Club on the 9th April.

Tony originally joined Sussex for the 1999 season and had six great years with the Club before retiring in 2004. Whilst at Sussex, he played an integral part in that the first Championship victory in 2003 scoring over 1,100 runs and thus becoming one of only a handful of cricketers to win the County Championship with two different counties.

Tony began his sporting career as a footballer at Swansea City playing in the football league and was also captain of Wales Youth. He spent thirteen seasons at Glamorgan, becoming vice-captain in the process.

Since Cottey, 42, left Sussex in 2004, he has worked as a training advisor at a College and as a Commercial Manager for a business distributing cricket equipment and team wear for all sports. He has also written newspaper columns, commentated for BBC Radio Wales, coached Wales Under 15's and become a hit on the after dinner speaking circuit – as well as finding time to write his book “There's only two Tony Cotteys”, which is in all leading book stores and the Sussex CCC Club Shop.

Commenting on his appointment, Tony said: "I'm obviously delighted to be coming back to my second home on the South coast. I had six memorable years at the club culminating in Sussex winning their first Championship in 2003. I loved being part of the Sussex Cricket Family and I'm really excited to be coming back to be part of that once again, meeting and working alongside a lot of old and new friends and getting stuck in to what is a fantastic opportunity for me."

Dave Brooks, Sussex CCC Chief Executive, said: "Tempting Tony back is a great coup for the Club. The link this role has with the sponsors, commercial team and dressing room is pivotal in maintaining the ethos of Sussex Cricket and I am delighted Tony is coming home".
