Weekend update from Machan
Matt Machan gives us an update on the weekend’s activities in the Port Elizabeth camp.
Thursday we trained in the morning, had nets and a light pool session too. In the afternoon we travelled to the local township, which was a fantastic experience for everyone. We coached the kids for an hour or so and had a few photos taken with them afterwards, which was great fun. We then moved on to the local museum that was called 'the red locaction' about the apartide in South Africa.
Friday we had a sand dune run at 7am, which was tough work, but we all shared a lighter moment when Melman (Jordan Rollings) got stuck half way up a dune. The sight resembled an ostrich sticking its head in the ground. We then followed this up by a cricket session and a weights session to end the week off.
Saturday we had off, but all chose to go to ADO Elephant park, which was amazing. We saw loads of Elephants and different types of animals.
Sunday we had a game of football which my team unfortunately came off worse. With some poor passing and terrible shooting we lost 7-3, but, none the less, it was great to get some exercise. This was followed up by a lovely BBQ in the evening ready for a hard week ahead.
Today we had a 7am long run along the beach followed by a cricket session, but with rain in the air this was cut short.
I feel that my game is coming along nicely this time of the year and, with the amount of work I’m putting into my game and the amount of fitness involved, I feel my games in a nice position to go into the season with.
