Sussex are delighted to announce that opening batsman Luke Wells has penned a new two-year contract at Hove, which will see him remain at The BrightonandHoveJobs.com County Ground until at least the end of the 2016 season.
Wells, who was born in Eastbourne, hit 942 LV=County Championship runs during the 2014 season at an average of 36.23. His highest score of the campaign came in the final match of the summer as he made 162 against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.
The left-hander has scored 3,674 first-class runs since making his four-day bow during the 2010 season, including eight centuries.
Wells said of his new contract, “I'm obviously pleased to finally put pen to paper and get things sorted. I absolutely love the club and I've been walking round here for as long as I can remember.
“I'm very proud to represent Sussex and hope I will be able to do so for many years in the future, to bring success to both the club and myself.”
Sussex's Ed Joyce said, “It is great news that Luke has decided to stay with Sussex for the foreseeable future.
“There is still so much scope for development and improvement, especially in white-ball cricket. He's also a local boy and lives and breathes Sussex Cricket and I know our fans will be very happy that he's decided to stay with us.”
