Background Info:

Playing in all but one of Sussex’s Championship matches, Panesar again broke the 50-wicket barrier, claiming 53 scalps at an average of 23.15, with a best of 7 for 60 in the first innings of the drawn match against Somerset at Taunton. He also took six wickets in the second innings, handing him match figures of 13 for 137. It was this kind of consistent form which again persuaded the England selectors to come calling, with him being selected for the tour of India. There was controversy as he was not picked for the First Test in Ahmedabad which the tourists lost, but he vindicated the decision to leave him out by taking 17 wickets in the next three matches.
