INDOOR CRICKET: Preston Nomads crowned 2014/15 Champions

The Successful Preston Nomads Line Up

Sussex Indoor Cricket Finals at Portslade Sports Centre January 2015

Six teams qualified in 2 groups of three with a recent winner in each. Three Bridges beat both Ifield and Worthing, while Worthing also lost to Ifield in Pool 1. In Pool 2, Preston Nomads beat Hastings and St. Leonards Priory and Seaford. Seaford, in their first appearance beat Hastings with Jacob Smith taking 4-11 and scoring 30 not out, a rare double feat indoors.

The Final brought 2013 Final winners Three Bridges up against Preston Nomads the 2014 winners. Three Bridges set a very high target of 147-5 to beat with Golding not out 46. After 4 overs the Nomads were 42-3 and a fourth soon followed leading to 66-4 after 6. Skipper Stephen Rigg made 31 before being brilliantly caught, with 9 runs needed, leaving Daniel Phillips 4 balls to make 9 runs. Amid mounting excitement, he edged closer but needed 2 off the last. He and Steve scrambled a 3 to win probably the best and most exciting Sussex Final. Phillips finished on 76*, a major achievement in Indoor cricket.
