Sussex under 17s Girls Reach Championship Semi Final
The Sussex under 17 girls have reached the championship final for the second year running and continue to remain unbeaten since 2012.The side have won all their group matches convincingly against Surrey, Essex and Kent, with Sussex under 17 captain and Academy player, Izzy Collis scoring 499 runs in just 6 County Championship matches so far this year, with her highest score being 141 against Essex.
There have also been some other outstanding performances within the age group such as Tanya Wake taking 13 wickets, Ellen Burt taking 7 wickets at an economy rate of 2.63 and scoring 54 against Essex. As well as wicket keeper, batsman, Abbey Freeborn scoring 94 not out against Kent and an unbeaten opening stand of 214 with Izzy Collis.
The under 17s will now face Devon, who they beat in last year’s Championship final, on Thursday 28th August at Moseley CC where they will hope to continue their unbeaten run and reach the final on the Friday where they could face either Lancashire or Warwickshire.
The under 17s have already had a successful season, having won the T20 regional finals back in May where they won all four matches against Essex and Kent. Unfortunately this year there is no T20 National final, but again they have dominated in all formats of the game.
Sussex Director of Cricket, Charlotte Burton said, “The under 17s have continued where they have left off from last year and continued to produce some outstanding performances. The side have continued to develop well as a team throughout the season and have been enjoying playing cricket together which can be seen on the pitch. We have another strong side this year and with everyone performing I am sure the side can continue their run of good form and progress into the final next week and hopefully come away as champions again for the second year running.”
