WOMEN & GIRLS: St Andrews U13, Brighton & Hove U15 & Horsham Ladies Successful in Indoor Leagues
Throughout the winter there have been 3 club Indoor leagues running, a Women’s Indoor league, under 13 girls and new to 2014 an under 15 Indoor league.
The Women’s Indoor league which is sponsored by the Dean’s Leisure centre and played at the Deans involved 6 clubs from around the county, playing in two divisions. The winners of each division played in a final, which was between Horsham and Hastings & St Leonards Priory. Horsham won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 133 for 5 in their 12 overs with Jessica Saunders top scoring with 50* and Charlotte Walder 35*.
Horsham bowled and fielded tightly and restricted Hastings to 111 for 3 with Melissa Ferguson and Abi Freeborn both top scoring with 27*. This was the second year that Horsham have been crowned Women’s Indoor Champions.
The under 15 league which is new to 2014 and involved Bells Yew Green, Brighton & Hove, Chippingdale, Horsham and St Andrews CC was held at Plumpton College on a Sunday morning and was just one league, where each team played each other once. It was an extremely close league with Bells Yew Green and Brighton & Hove finishing on the same number of points, so it went down to which team scored the most runs through the league and with just 42 runs in it, Brighton & Hove CC were crowned under 15 champions.
The under 13 Indoor league was played on Saturday afternoons at the Deans Leisure centre which had two leagues that involved two Brighton & Hove CC teams, Chippingdale CC, Horsham CC, St Andrews CC and St Peters CC. The winners of both leagues, which were St Andrews and St Peters, played in the final this weekend which saw St Andrews take their first trophy of the season and become under 13 Indoor champions.
