Sussex Cricket in the Community supporting local charities - Friends of Sussex Hospices

Friends of Sussex Hospices (FSH) were delighted to receive a cheque for £435 from Sussex County Cricket Club to support the 12 Sussex hospice care providers they fundraise for each year.

The funds were raised during T20 matches across the season and will go to help fund some of the invaluable work our Sussex hospices undertake each year, supporting the adults and children across East and West Sussex with specialist end-of-life care, both in their in-patient units and now more commonly, in their homes.

 Hospices provide communities with:

  • Care to those whose illness is no longer thought curable
  • Care free of charge to those individuals and their carers
  • In-patient care
  • Hospice at home care
  • Day therapy clinics and outpatient support
  • Quality of life through expert pain and symptom management
  • Emotional and spiritual support to those of all faiths and of none
  • Crisis intervention, counselling, welfare and bereavement support

Friends of Sussex Hospices are a volunteer run charity who organise activities across the County to raise money.   Funds are distributed according to a formula which has been agreed with the hospices, based on annual care statistics submitted to the National Council for Palliative Care.

Kathy Gore, Chair of FSH, said  "We are delighted to receive this generous donation from Sussex County Cricket Club.  Our hospices receive very little funding from government, so depend critically on fundraising from within their local communities in order to provide the specialist care and support they give."

Being able to support all of the Hospices across the County is great for Sussex County Cricket Club as we have connections with people right across Sussex and includes families who are touched by each of the different hospices and in home care services.
