Safeguarding in Cricket is based upon the concept of providing an enjoyable cricket environment that is tailored to the needs and requirements of children.

CRB SIGN OFF EVENINGS
We have organised a number of drop-in sessions around the county this year to support clubs in getting CRBs signed off.

Training
Safe Hands
SCB has a Safeguarding Policy Statement and adopts ECB’s Safe Hands - Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children - which can be downloaded from here. Hard copies can be purchased for £10, to order please contact Gary Wallis-Tayler. You can also contact Gary if you would like some free of charge Safe Hands leaflets - Club Information Booklet, Guidance for Parents, Coaching Guidelines, Information for Young People.
The responsibility to provide an enjoyable cricket environment lies with everyone involved in cricket and as part of their affiliation package, clubs are required to:
- Adopt the ECB Safeguarding policy in their constitution, suggested wording "To ensure a duty of care to all members of the club by adopting and implementing the ECB 'Safe Hands - Cricket's Policy for Safeguarding Children' and any future versions of the Policy".
- Appoint a trained Club Welfare Officer. For details of the training programme for Club Welfare Officers Click here
- Undertake CRB checks on all people regularly working with children.
Training
Club Welfare Officers are required to attend two 3 hour training courses:
- Safeguarding and Protecting Children. This course provides a general understanding of the issues around the welfare of young people
- Time to Listen. This course specifically looks at the ECB Safe Hands policy and how to implement it in your club. It is necessary to attend the Safeguarding and Protecting Children course, or equivalent, before this course.

To ensure all clubs playing in the Sussex Leagues have the required fully trained Club Welfare Officer in time for the start of the new season the SCB have put on some extra courses.
They all take place at The County Ground, Hove and run between 6.30 and 9.30pm.
