Stategy / Action Plan

The Sussex Cricket Board has a draft 3 year action plan to increase the participation opportunities available to those with disabilities.

Initially these will be participation opportunities in schools, but phase 2 of the plan will entail the development of structures outside of schools such as clubs and competition structures.

Chance to Shine

Managed by the Sussex Cricket Board, the project is enabling cricket participation opportunities to be provided in schools for children with learning difficulties. The project has the potential to run for a number of years and therefore will look to provide the same level of opportunities to children with all types of disability.

Parallel Games

The Sussex Parallel Youth Games is an annual event that looks to expand the opportunities for young disabled children in competitive sport in Sussex.

19 Special Schools signed up to the 2009 Sussex
Parallel Youth Games!

The Sussex County Sports Partnership annually organise the Sussex Parallel Youth Games and are delighted to announce that this year we have 19 special schools across the county signed up to compete, making 2009 our biggest Parallel Youth Games yet!

This year we will be working in partnership with the Co-operative Group again to deliver the 2009 Games!  The Co-operative Group have committed their support to this event over the next three years to ensure the ongoing success of this popular event.

For the forth year running Olympos, Leisure Centre, Burgess Hill will be hosting the event again, generously providing the venue for the event, free of charge.

The Sussex Parallel Youth Games offers young disabled athletes the opportunity to show off their skills and receive much-deserved recognition in sport in Sussex. The children compete in a number of sports including boccia, wheelchair basketball, basketball, new age kurling, tennis, cricket and swimming and it is hoped that these Games provide a springboard for local aspiring athletes.
