Schools

Over the last three years cricket for girls in schools has increased, leading to the formation of a number of leagues and competitions throughout the winter and summer.

Over the winter there are two national competitions, the U13 and U15 Lady Taverners Indoor Tournaments.

In the summer, the SCB run three leagues for schools; U13 and U15 softball league and an U18 hardball league.

2010 Lady Taverners Indoor Cricket Tournament

Sussex Cricket Board will be holding Lady Taverners Indoor Girls School cricket tournaments during February and March 2010, for under 13 and under 15s. Last year, Brighton College were runners up in the National final.

Depending upon the number of schools involved we will either, do an area competition and then have a final on a separate date or we have one finals day; of course we will have to make a final decision when we have all the entries in. The dates of the tournament will be out by December.

The winners of the under 13 and under 15s Lady Taverners competition will then go into the regional final to represent the County on Tuesday 20th April for the under 13s and Thursday 22nd April for the 15s where they will play against other schools from Surrey, Hampshire, Kent, Middlesex and Essex.
If the school is successful in winning against other County schools then they will enter the National Final, date to be confirmed.

The Lady Taverners tournament is an 8 a-side competition played with an incredi-ball, and will be run on weekdays.

If your school would like to enter in either the under 13 or under 15 Lady Taverners tournament then please fill in the Entry form and return to Charlotte Burton, (details on the form) by Monday 1st December.

Schools can enter more than one side to each age group and also benefit from free coaching before the tournament. To arrange this please contact Charlotte.

NEWS

St Bede’s Prep School Win U13 County Final

During the winter a number of schools have taken part in the under 13 and under 15 Lady Taverners competition. This is a national tournament that has been going on for a number of years and has been on the increase every year, particularly in Sussex.

In 2009 we had 12 schools enter the under 13’s and 19 schools involved in the under 15’s.

We hold a number of rounds and then have a county final with the winner going through to the Regional final in April.

The under 13’s tournament was completed on Tuesday 24th February at Brighton College with 4 schools reaching the final from their rounds, The Vale First and Middle School, Helenswood, St Bede’s Prep and Oathall.

Helenswood were National Champions in 2008 and were looking to reach the Regional final for the second year, but they were stopped in their tracks in an extremely close final.

All the teams played each other throughout the day and in the end it came down to two schools on the same points, Helenswood and St Bede’s Prep.  So the winners had to be decided on who scored the most runs throughout the tournament. It was extremely close and St Bede’s Prep won the tournament by just 7 runs. They will now go through to the Regional Final on Monday 20th April in Hertfordshire.

The under 15 tournament has also been running over the last few months with the County Final being held on Tuesday 17th March at the K2 Leisure Centre, Crawley. The schools in the final are, Brighton College, Helenswood, Ratton, Littlehampton Community School and either Worthing High or Kings Manor.
